This courses is designed to support your English learning as a second language. By the end of this course, you will have gained a variety and relevant skills that can be applied in academic, personal, and professional settings.
You will learn advanced conversational strategies in listening, language use, and nonverbal communication and how to present oral expressions necessary for enhancing conversation and listening skills. Our class activities, quizzes, assignments, and projects will help you increase and refine your everyday and academic vocabulary.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduces advanced conversational strategies in listening, language use, and nonverbal communication. Presents oral expressions necessary for enhancing conversation and listening skills. Emphasizes differences between formal and informal language based on attitudes and cultures in the United States.
HOURS OF OUTSIDE STUDY
Speaking and using English well takes a great deal of time. In addition to the hours that you spend on class, you are encouraged to also spend time outside of class practicing and using your English. Below is a breakdown of how many hours of outside study or practice time you may spend. The amount of time actually spent could vary depending on your background knowledge and skills.
Student-to-student Interaction
Students need to participate by interacting with each other. That helps build learning communities and provide and receive support from your classmates. Students will be communicating with each other through discussion boards. Student-to-student interaction is required.
Hours of Outside Study Time:
Speaking (40 Hours): Practice speaking English to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and/or classmates.
Listening (40 Hours): Listening to information in English: Movies, TV shows, the news, YouTube videos, podcasts, etc.
Reading (20 Hours): Reading books, magazines, articles, etc.
Writing (20 Hours): Assignments and Journal writing.
Revision (24 Hours): Creating and reviewing a vocabulary notebook, Studying and preparing for quizzes, tests, presentations, and/or projects.
Total Hours: 144

Netiquette refers to the acceptable standards of behavior when interacting in an online environment.
It is expected that every student will be polite and respectful.
Participate actively in the discussions and other course activities.

Pronto is an easy-to-use mobile communication platform that provides synchronous chat, video, audio, images, and file sharing. Pronto works similar to social media platforms and allows instant communication with the instructor and classmates.
